In line with recent changes by the Department for Education (DfE) and the new National Plan for Music Education (NPME), Lead Schools for Music are being designated across each Local Authority area.

The Tri-borough Music Hub (TBMH) has announced the appointment of six primary schools as Lead Schools in Kensington and Chelsea, Westminster, and Hammersmith and Fulham. We are delighted to share that among these schools are St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Chelsea and St John XXIII Catholic Primary School.

Why We Were Chosen:

  • Exemplary Music Provision and Teaching: Our schools represent exemplary music education thanks to dedicated and highly qualified music teachers and state-of-the-art resources.
  • Champions of Best Practice: We are dedicated to setting the standard for music education within our Local Authority.
  • Commitment to Comprehensive Music Education: We ensure significant timetable allocation of music and offer extensive co-curricular opportunities, inclusive provision, and community-wide projects.
  • Strategic Inclusion: We actively contribute to developing inclusive strategies within the music curriculum.
  • Advocacy: We promote music education and support the work of the Music Hub across other schools.

Our Role as Lead Schools:

We will play a pivotal role in enhancing music education across other schools. Our collaboration with TBMH involves:

  • Learning Networks: Facilitating networks for shared learning and growth.
  • CPD Courses: Offering continuous professional development courses.
  • Mentoring: Providing mentorship to support other educators.
  • Peer Support: Engaging in peer support activities.
  • Collaborative Projects: Initiating and participating in collaborative music projects.
  • Resource Sharing: Sharing best practices and resources.

Our Commitment:

  • Collaborative Planning: We will work closely with the TBMH Leadership Team to design and shape initiatives benefiting other schools and settings.
  • Regular Meetings: We will attend termly planning meetings to ensure cohesive progress.
  • Active Participation: We will take part in school networks, CPD sessions, activities, and events.
  • Advocacy: We will promote and amplify the work of the Music Hub.

The status as Lead Schools is granted for an initial period of two years, subject to review thereafter.

This term, our schools attended the inaugural meeting with the other Lead Schools and are now planning a comprehensive CPD day for around 150 teachers across the Tri-borough. This event will take place at The Coliseum, home of the English National Opera, in November.
